Turkish Bath In Cappadocia (Hamam or Hammam)

The Turkish bath, also known as the hamam, is one of the best-known customs of the ancient world and is still practiced today. The tradition of the Turkish bath began to develop generations ago, adopted by the Romans and Byzantines and later perfected by the Seljuk and Ottoman Turks, continuing to the present day.

We offer the Turkish bath experience in a luxurious modern hamam carved out of a cave, allowing our guests to appreciate the best of both worlds; old world tradition in a modern and luxurious setting. To help you relax after his adventures in Cappadocia, our professional masseuses offer a variety of services, in addition to the hammam and sauna ritual.</ P>

What happens in the Turkish bath in Cappadocia?

Well, the ritual is simple. You will find yourself in the Sicaklik (also known as Hararet), a room where the sound of falling water, the aroma of soap and delicately floating steam make our worries and stress disappear for a moment. Sitting in one of the marble sinks, the soft humid heat makes your body relax and your nerves calm down. The very pleasantly tempered water allows us to immerse ourselves in the copper bathtub and then pour water over your head and body, producing a deep state of relaxation that envelops your body.

Lying on the warm stone in the center of the room, your attendant (tellak for men and natir for women) will pour hot water on you and begin rubbing every square inch of your body. Basically, every inch of dead, dirty skin is cleaned, even the skin between your fingers and toes.

Then, they smear you with liquid soap and shampoo and they offer you different massage options (a bit painful maybe the first time, but it’s worth it). After the massage, the assistant will wash you from head to toe again, then one last shower for after leaving the Sicaklik.

Then you are given clean towels and taken back to Sogukluk (the cold room) to rest, dry off and marvel at how your skin glows and looks amazingly smooth.
