Bodrum to Kos is a popular day trip from the peninsula. Kos is only 20 kilometres across the sea from Bodrum castle port so it only takes 1 hour to get there on the ferry.

Approaching the harbour from Bodrum to Kos, you will not be able to avoid seeing the spectacular castle, known as castle of Neratzia. It is both beautiful and important in many nations histories. The Castle controlled the waters between the 2 ancient worlds during the crusades. History says the Castle of Neratzia was built by the famous Knights Templar in the late 1400’s.

Kos Islands harbour is large and curves around the north side of the island. Many keep sailors use this port as a stop off point in the Aegean because it is central to Turkey’s coast and the Greek Island.

An accidental explosion in the 19th century ruined a large part of this castle and Italian historians have rebuilt it to it’s natural glory pre-Ottoman empire. Tree of Hippocrates

In Legend, it is said that Hippocrates of Kos taught his students to study medicine under this tree. It’s located in the centre of Kos town, just opposite the Castle of Neratzia. The tree is about 500 years old so it’s not the original but a desendent of the original tree of Hippocrates which stood 2400 years ago.

Kos Old Town

The streets of Kos Old town are a beautiful mix of ancient and modern influence. During the summer months, the pedestrianised roads are busting with tourists eager to sample the many souveneir shops, cafes and restaurants on offer.

Platia Eleftherias (Freedom Square)

This square is enclosed by all the monuments and historical structures that span a number of cultures. History lovers must do the day trip from Bodrum to Kos. This is because the Island has been inhabited by the Hellenistic, the Byzantine, Roman and Ottoman empires, the Italians and the Modern Turks.

Therma Bay

If you hire a car, you can travel 10 minutes from Kos town to reach Therma Bay. Here you can bathe in the hot, mineral rich water. You can also catch a bus here from the main town. The water is heated volcanically, and the natural pool is seperated from the sea by a wall of fallen rocks. It’s quite an amzing experience to jump from the boiling thermal water into the comparable cool sea!

Do I need a visa to go to Kos?

Many nationalities do not need a visa for the Bodrum to Kos day trip, but if you are not a UK, EU citizen or Schengen visa holder you will need to get your visa before you travel. Pick Up

The pick up for the Bodrum to Kos Trip is between 7 am and 7.30 am. A more accurate time will be given after book for the area of the peninsula you are staying in.

At the Port

You will arrive to the port in Bodrum Centre at about 8 am. Once there you will be shown to a ticket office where you will need to exchange your agency ticket for a ferry ticket. Then you will pass through passport control and board the ferry. The ferry departure time is 9 am.

On Kos

After a 1 hour ferry ride you will arrive in Kos town port. You will have about 6 hours of free time on Kos to explore and look around the island. When you arrive you will be told at what time you need to be back at the port ready for a 4.30 pm departure from Kos.

Back in Bodrum

When you arrive back to Bodrum port you can take advantage of the duty free shop. Your return transfer will be waiting where you were dropped off to take you back to your accommodation.
