Bodrum to Kos Island is a popular day trip from the peninsula. Kos is only 20 kilometres across the sea from Bodrum castle port so it only takes 1 hour to get there on the ferry.

Approaching the harbour from Bodrum to Kos Island, you will not be able to avoid seeing the spectacular castle, known as castle of Neratzia. It is both beautiful and important in many nations histories. The Castle controlled the waters between the 2 ancient worlds during the crusades. History says the Castle of Neratzia was built by the famous Knights Templar in the late 1400’s.

Kos Islands harbour is large and curves around the north side of the island. Many keep sailors use this port as a stop off point in the Aegean because it is central to Turkey’s coast and the Greek Island.

-Kos old town – The streets of Kos Old town are a beautiful mix of ancient and modern influence. During the summer months, the pedestrianised roads are busting with tourists eager to sample the many souveneir shops, cafes and restaurants on offer.

– Castle of Neratzia – during the 19th century, the Turkish commander of the army used this castle as his home and as the barracks for soldiers. And when Germany occupied the Island during the war, they used the castle as a holding centre for Greek prisoners. An accidental explosion in the 19th century ruined a large part of this castle and Italian historians have rebuilt it to it’s natural glory pre-Ottoman empire. The 1 hour ferry trip from Bodrum to Kos Island is worth it for history buffs.

-Tree of Hippocrates – In Legend, it is said that Hippocrates of Kos taught his students to study medicine under this tree. It’s located in the centre of Kos town, just opposite the Castle of Neratzia. The tree is about 500 years old so it’s not the original but a desendent of the original tree of Hippocrates which stood 2400 years ago.

-Platia Eleftherias (Freedom square) – is enclosed by all the monuments and historical structures that span a number of cultures. History lovers must do the day trip from Bodrum to Kos Island. This is because the Island has been inhabited by the Hellenistic, the Byzantine, Roman and Ottoman empires, the Italians and the Modern Turks.

-Therma Bay – If you hire a car, you can travel 10 minutes from Kos town to reach Therma Bay. Here you can bathe in the hot, mineral rich water. You can also catch a bus here from the main town. The water is heated volcanically, and the natural pool is separated from the sea by a wall of fallen rocks. It’s quite an amazing experience to jump from the boiling thermal water into the comparable cool sea!

-Tour of Kos – there is a small train that you can board near to the marina. It takes you on a small tour of the northern part of the island. An automated information recording will be played to passengers as the train shows you the local sites.

-UK passport holders and EU passport holders do NOT need a visa to enter Kos. Other passport holders MUST check their status before they book a ticket. It is not the responsibility of Easy Book Tours to check the validity of necessary visas.

– You MUST take your passport with you. Failure to take your passport will mean you will be refused admission to the ferry, and no refund will be given.
